The initial excitement of the i-phone has been drawn out to perfection, from its initial, absolute exclusivity with 02, to the recent announcement that Vodafone have the rights to partnership, again creating another media storm. However, the Android was supposed to be the next big thing. Many of us ‘know-it-alls’ held off buying the ‘inept’ i-phone because it wasn’t as superior as the soon to explode Android phenomenon.

Still waiting . . . ? as am I.

But wasn’t this Android software everything we ever dreamt of. Didn’t it, potentially have the powers to send adverts to people from brands as they walked down O’Connell street. Wasn’t it a phone application that allowed free VOIP calls and access to Google’s entire plethora of products? I knew the i-phone was exclusive, so exclusive in-fact that it wasn’t an open source system, if that was such a bad thing where is my Android?

Josh Lovison of Adage, still believes that the race will be Androids. The reasons however are the same reasons that it was a favourite at the beginning. Usage of the portal is free. Google believes that the timing of the platform’s release is ideal, because it enables agencies to continue boosting their digital know-how even at a time when most are cash-strapped.

Johnnie descried brands as essential to organisations. He noted the importance of consistency with brands. “Treat a brand like a person, think of it like a person, you want to get along with it, you want to hang out with it”. It is important to know where you stand with brands according to Cahill.

Some great brands include Innocent, Ben and Jerry’s and Ryanair, because you know what you get. Aer lingus is a poor brand because it changes from low fair to high quality over and over. It is an inconsistent brand.

Johnnie described the importance of brands earning love over use. He drew a love and use graph, describing how brands should not just compete on use, ie. Ryanair low cost, unless they can’t be beaten on it.

The O2 strategy “together is better” is a very inclusive tagline.  Johnnie described the 35% media deflation and how the recession is impacting marketing departments worldwide.

It is important when marketing t understand the insight of consumers. Why people do things, his example was “why do people shout at rugby games, when it has no impact on the game”. Marketing is all about these complex emotions.

Johnnie concluded stating that O2 spend 15% of their budget on digital, describing it as a very measurable and accountable media, whichwill grow and grow.

Nestle using Twitter through an integrated online campaign. Very good work; Revolution describes

The brand is testing the ‘Twitter Pulse’ format, developed by SocialMedia, as part of a drive to promote its Juicy Juice children’s fruit drink in the US.
The ad unit appears on a range of parenting sites asking questions including ‘How do you stimulate your child’s mind?’ and ‘How important are vitamin enhanced foods to you?’
Users who are already logged in to Twitter can answer the questions by posting tweets directly into the ad, while those not logged in are directed to the microblog to enter their user name and password.
As well as appearing in the Juicy Juice ad unit, users’ tweets also show up in their Twitter feeds with a hashtag. All comments are moderated by Nestle.
Consumers that click on the ad unit are taken through to Juicy Juice’s YouTube channel, which contains a series of videos aimed at parents.Nestle and SocialMedia are tracking a number of metrics for the Juicey Juice campaign, including views and click-through rates, as well as the number of users exposed to the hashtag via Twitter. Pepsi is including a Twitter tag on the can of its newest line of bubbly drinks Pepsi Raw, asking consumers to log-on to the microblogging website and share their thoughts on the soda in 140 characters or less.

Microsoft’s Bing has some ground to make up before it ever catches Google, but the new kid on the block may be the sweeter deal for advertisers, as research shows Bing users are more likely to read sponsored advertising than those searching with Google

Fiat have a Nike + type thing, that has been out for ages but i have only just heard about.

 I have recently learned the importance of people skills. If dealing with people, there is one word that will make them feel perfect and you seem like a social genius “YOU”.

Just by asking people “what are YOU into?, what do you like, what are you up to at the minute?”. Gives people the idea that you care and this makes people feel that you are about them.

I recently went into a company for a shadow week, wereby you normally shadow what people are doig, how they do it, all in the aim of learning from them.

In Interactive Return,now radical digital, it was amazing, Aisling Blake showed me everything and i really enjoyed it. In Cybercom they were great, they would show you around, ask what you are interested in, how they could help you etc.

It was just politeness at the end of the day, but it kept you interested.

I am not acting the Pima Donna here  but when dealing with people, NEVER GET TOO BIG, TOO UNAPPRECIATIVE ETC. Just be nice.

As Billy Dixon (legend)once said to me, ask people about them and they will keep on talking. People love to talk about themselves.(says me, the blogger!!)

Very creative intelligent idea from an impressive agency

Anyone looking for jobs online, have to give prosperity a shout out, been very helpful to me and the fingers are heavily crossed.

Found this out recently. I had given the Blyk directors a hard time at the Net Imperative event in Diageo earlier this year. I presumed that, the Android, when it fully gets going will ddestroy such a business model, but i heard this from a little birdie on the inside:

Blyk is looking to evolve its UK operation in line with a global strategy
of partnering with operators. Blyk sees its members as its core asset. It is
in Blyk’s interest to look out for its members. This change is part and
parcel of Blyk’s journey. The MVNO model acts as proof of concept. As hoped,

They are expanding and including partners that are interested in this very
cool model.
